Over the last 4 months, I've conducted personal and professional surveys with Scrapbookers all over the globe about why they can't seem to get the ball in motion and figure out how to begin their Scrapbooks.

I have learned that the never ending pool of sample Scrapbook pages or techniques is simply too overwhelming for most people. And I have to admit, I agree!

Just why is it that so many of the Scrapbooking resources are VOID of simple, step by step instructions?

Why is it that every website is packed full of links to technique after technique after technique? So much so that getting lost is almost always guaranteed? Why is it that every magazine and book on Scrapbooking is packed so full of advertising that the project details are limited to only the products used and very little suggestion for variation?

Don't you want to know how to scrapbook without feeling overwhelmed by the process and the product choices you see?

DIY Scrapbooking is supposed to be easy, fun and rewarding! I am about to MAKE SURE IT IS!

Hello there...my name is Cijaye DePradine. I am married with two fabulous kids and I have a thriving career where I travel all the time with great co-workers to cool destinations like New York, San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago etc.

I have plenty of reasons to Scrapbook but even more reason to share what I know with you.

I started collecting the necessary supplies for Card Making way back in 2003. In fact, I attempted selling cards through other businesses online - but that was less successful than I had hoped. I have since collected over 50 Scrapbooking Products (books, software, magazines etc) - and moved onto more Scrapbook specific supplies. I create new pages as often as I can but I am more of an ideas mill and an educator than anything else.

And while I have teamed up with some supreme Experts for this website and other Scrapbooking projects, I have learned something very important that prompted me to start a "movement" so to speak to change the way people learn scrapbooking.

so that you don't have to waste any more valuable time figuring out how and where to begin!

So...what comes first?

The First Step is knowing what you can do with a scrapbook. Then making the right choice for your next project and sticking with it (not getting off track until its done).

Below is a list of some of the more common projects you can do with your Scrapbook knowledge:

• Catalog your community history

• Catalog your families history / displaying your family tree

• Catalog your favorite scriptures

• Create photo scrapbooks

• Create visions and dreams wish books

• Creatively display collected materials

• Creatively store"swipe" files

• Customize preganancy or baby journals

• Customize wedding books

• Customizing wedding guest books

• Illustrate your journaling

• Pay tribute to your heros, mentors or idols

• Visually present your feelings

Below is a list of how your Scrapbooking knowledge can be transfered to the perfect gift for a dear friend, loved one or other recipients:

• Create birthday, wedding and greeting cards

• Create party invitations

• Create gift tags and gift books

• Make coasters

• Decorate picture frames

• Create framed keepsakes

• Decorate journals, gift boxes and other treasured items.

• Create new streams of income for our families (as a scrapbooker for others, an instructor, a products distributor or even a consultant).

And the list goes on. There are so many projects available to you. And so many benefits you can gain as a result of doing them. It is your choice.

Once you have decided what the primary "focus" (who) of your Scrapbook will be - you can move onto the form and function.

The "form and function" helps you answer those tough questions like:

1. What you can do with the photo's you already have?

2. What sort of common "theme"you can apply to them?

3. Will you start with a "My Favorite Photo's" theme?

4. Or will you consider other themes like Time Indoors, Time Outdoors, The Year in Review, Special Events and so on?

5. What colors or patterned papers would most appropriately match the mood of the them?

6. What extras would compliment the pages? (Embellishments, Notions, Accents etc).

7. What album do you need to finalize the project?
   

Honestly, there are no limits to what you can do with your scrapbooking skills.

Whether you are an experienced or beginner scrapbooker, I bet you are just like me...eager to learn all that you can about scrapbooking. And hungry for the hottest and most creative scrapbooking ideas on the market.

And, no matter what level of experience you have card making or scrapbooker's block and the desire to do something different each time is always lurking around the corner and will at some point catch up to you if you are not careful.

So I hope that what I am about to say will help you avoid these and some of the more common scrapbooking setbacks permanently. Especially since it will be the deciding factor about whether or not YOU get to start that project at all.

**WARNING** If you don't acknowledge this FIRST, you may NEVER start that Scrapbook Page... Here it goes... Its just too easy to get immersed in the endless project possibilities. If you spend any more than 15 minutes on the Internet (after you have read all that I have to say here) or with your favorite publication browsing through the amazing projects that others have done - you will get lost in the AW FACTOR of just how great your Scrapbook could be! Just like I have many times. And when this happens, you will not get anything accomplished! Time goes by quickly. There are many free Scrapbooking Sites on the Internet but not all are created equal! There are also many Scrapbooking Magazines and Books, but again - you get what you pay for. If you know that you want a simplified, step by step way to begin Scrapbooking and complete your projects quickly and easily, you must read on!

So many Scrapbooking resources can be a gift and a curse to your ability to get started, so be smart;

Prepare yourself for the following when you are researching Scrapbooking alternatives outside of this site:

1. Many of the Scrapbooking resources out there show you the finished result of a technique but not the "how to" details of doing that technique yourself. They leave you to figure it out for yourself - therefore taking more of your time. Avoid them if you can there are better options to getting started.

2. Many of the Scrapbooking resources that do show you the finished product and give you details on "how to"carry out the project will usually limit their details to specific "brand names" (that you may or may not have) and little to no alternatives or variations. They may also avoid giving you details on exactly how to use those individual products (so what good is their guidance afterall).

3. These resources can cost you more time and energy than necessary. *Look for the full meal deal and nothing less. Time is money; one way or another.

4. Basic Scrapbooking Techniques and Advanced Scrapbooking Techniques can have their own terminologies but some of those terminologies can be ambiguous with other industries.

• If you find techniques (like bleaching or watercoloring) for other industries don't be too quick to ignore them, take a moment to see if they have already been altered to fit card making or scrapbooking . You might be pleasantly surprised.

5. If you don't find the techniques you are looking for when searching you may want learn how to use advanced search engine techniques for searching and you may uncover the treasures you are looking for anyhow. *Type: "power searching commands" into the search engines to learn how to do this. This will save you time.

6. If during your online search, you find a whole world of techniques available that you want use, create a quick excel spreadsheet to compare the supplies or tools each technique will require against others and see if you can narrow your new skills acquisitions to those that have the most supplies and tools in common in the very beginning.

7. This will allow you to try a few different scrapbook ideas on one scrapbook (with many pages and limited tools) and still create the variety you want so that not all of the pages look the same.

8. Also,If you happen to stumble upon your own variations or techniques while you are applying those you learn; make note of your new Scrapbooking Ideas in your excel spreadsheet of the alterations you made so that you can easily repeat them the next time.

 

Lets face it, the time and financial investment we would like to spend on scrapbooking could easily be enough to require an intervention.

BUT, when you use these simple time saving tips you will gain a big advantage over your time, money and efforts! You will see benefits beyond what you can imagine - such as:

	You will be able to start and complete a project when you are inspired to get it done, instead of giving up that time to your searches.
	You will be able to use only a few standard supplies on MOST of your projects. *There will no longer be a need to buy every hot new scrapbooking item. (Unless of course you are just addicted like I am). The less time you spend searching for all of those specific brands the other experts recommend and tips on how to scrapbook with them use them, the more of your own supplies you will be able to use and adapt to the techniques you learn and the more money you will be able to save.
	You don't always need new TOOLS; you can make use of those you already have or plan projects using similar tools so that your scrapbooking supply purchases go a longer distance.
	Having your own system of tracking your creative alterations to others' techniques will not only allow you to replicate faster but will also turn the waterworks on our own creative juices making innovation quicker and easier each time.
	The more time we keep for ourselves when we are NOT giving it away to the web of scrapbooking sites out there or other resrouces, the more time we can spend with our loved ones as well as doing our craft!

Only when you start your Scrapbook, can you truly grow your knowledge and appreciation for this rewarding craft.

In fact, many scrapbookers find their projects stress relieving and meditative! I certainly do.

So why spend all of your spare time contemplating which of the millions of projects you see online - will be the one you start NEXT TIME!?

Wouldn't you want to do something that relieves stress and makes for a wonderful gift or conversation piece and even income for your family TODAY?

Trust me...all it takes is your devoted time to complete your next Scrapbook

It is not relevant if you do not have card making or scrapbooking knowledge yet - you will get more from DOING IT, than you will from dreaming about it!
